Our ready-to-assemble DIY bench kits have all you need to restore your own garden bench. They include pre-drilled wooden slats (Iroko), braces, bolts, and screws. You can pick and choose what you want in your kit when you place your order.

Our bestselling Standard Bench Kit will fit most bench ends and is probably the one you need. If not, we also have kits for other, less common bench types - and can even produce custom kits made to your order!

The full kit comprises everything you need to restore your bench. You get:

  • A set of hardwood slats, planed, rounded and pre-drilled
  • A set of 2 braces *

Yes, you can order whatever kit parts you need, including just the wooden slats. When you order, you will have the option to pick and choose what's included in your kit.

If you don’t require slats, you can purchase bench accessories separately.

Yes you do in order to properly restore your item. If you have salvaged them from the old bench that's fine, but otherwise you will need to replace them. The centre strap unites all the slats and the braces stop lateral sway (the slop syndrome).

You will get an assembly guide with your kit that explains how to do this. Here is an example of a restored bench seen from underneath:

The standard slats are 1200mm long x 21mm thick and come in 2 widths: 35mm and 55mm.

We use iroko timber for our restoration kits. Iroko is also known as African teak since it shares many of the properties of teak, including the colour.  It is a very durable hardwood, ideally suited to temperate climates. It is both insect and rot resistant, making it the ideal type of wood for street furniture products.

To prevent Iroko slatted seats from staining, aging or discolouring, teak oil can be used as a protective measure to repel water and shield the wood from sun and weather. Iroko is much harder than oak and because it is a naturally oily timber it is often used for joinery which will be subjected to hostile environments. Learn more.

We can provide several combinations of slat types to match your own bench ends. Our standard bench kit can come with 8 wide and 4 narrow slats, 9 wide and 3 narrow slats, or 10 wide with 2 narrow.

Our standard slat sizes fit most items. If you have read the kit descriptions and are still unsure, and you know the number and length of slats you require, you can request a quote for a custom restoration kit which can include photos of your existing item.

Otherwise, you can send us photos from our contact form and we can advise you as to what you need.

We do not recommend either of these treatments unless you adore flaky wood and love maintenance.

The slats are all iroko wood and can be supplied untreated, or treated with a base coat of teak oil.

Assembling our DIY kits couldn't be easier. We supply an assembly guide that takes you through the process step by step. The only tools you need are a drill, a spanner and screwdrivers. As long as you have all the items shown below, you have everything you need!

Dispatch is normally within 12 business days for stock items and 15 business days for custom items.  You will be advised of the expected dispatch dates at the time of ordering.

Yes, by prior arrangement. We are based in Brynmawr, Wales. Please contact us to arrange a suitable time.

Yes, we deliver to the UK, Europe and worldwide. However, due to the weight of most of our products, it can be very expensive. Deliveries outside the UK require a quote. Please place an order to receive a quote including postage costs.

You are responsible for paying any import taxes or duties that may be applied once your order has arrived to the country of destination.

No. All orders for our restoration kits must be placed via this website: we cannot process orders over the telephone. We can only take credit card payments (checkout is through Stripe).

Yes.  We have a limited amount of factory seconds that are available as an option on some of our kits.  They are made from the same iroko timber as our standard slats, but may be bowed, bent or have multiple colours (see photo below). These slats are offered at a discounted price to our standard high-quality slats.
